Candy Dowd’s Medical Bills & Memory Making Opportunities Fund
Hello, we are the friends and family of Candy Dowd. Candy is currently working full time at Willow Glen Primary School and has been in the St. Francis School District for more than 18 years. She is a well-known, respected teacher within the community. In February 2016, Candy was diagnosed with Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer, and has since begun the fight of her life. Since her diagnosis, Candy has undergone 12 rounds of chemotherapy and multiple radiation procedures. Going to work full time has continued to be a struggle and Candy is looking to the future and considering/preparing to go on short term/long term disability, but is holding off as long as possible to reduce the income loss to support her family. Candy is a mom to 3 children, 2 sons at Muskego High School and 1 daughter at Lake Denoon Middle School. Currently, Candy has missed school days due to treatments, pain and fatigue. Since beginning treatment, the medical bills have begun to pile up, which is the reason for this letter.
On Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the St. Francis Lions Community Center, a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for Candy and her family will be held. The funds raised at this event will help cover costs of medical bills, ease the transition into disability wages and go towards building lasting memory opportunities for her family.
Now, you are probably thinking, how can I help with this? We are looking for donations for the bake sale, silent auction, spaghetti dinner and raffles. Cash donations are also always welcome. If you are able to make a donation (that may be tax-deductible; EIN #81-4284591) to our fundraiser, please contact Paula Boknevitz via email or phone (contact information included at bottom of letter). We would be happy to arrange to pick up your donation, or you may mail it to the address included below. We would like to collect all donations by February 5, 2017.
We are grateful for the corporate support of our friend and teacher. By doing so, you are helping to keep hope, faith and courage alive for such a deserving, strong woman and her family. While you may not personally know the family, I’m sure you can imagine the devastating, heartbreaking news of only have such a finite time with your children.
